Fraikin Communications was created in its current form in 1988. However, its founder, Joop Fraikin, first set himself up as a freelance translator and writer in the late 1970s. Because his first customers so obviously appreciated his work, he decided to lend his name to a new linguistic service that would gradually cover more and more European Union languages.

Joop Fraikin (who was born in 1953 in Haarlem, the Netherlands) has a degree in interpreting from one of Brussels’ top translation and interpreting schoools, the Institut Supérieur de l’Etat des Traducteurs et Interprètes (now known as the Institut Supérieur Erasme). As a young graduate, from 1979 to 1984, Joop Fraikin worked as a freelance interpreter at the European Parliament, and as a freelance translator and writer. After a brief spell as a copywriter, first with advertising agency Young & Rubicam, then with direct marketing agency Wunderman International, he continued his freelance career.

Creating a freelance network

Fraikin Communications expanded little by little, finally establishing itself at the head of a team of freelance translators and writers, capable of quickly, competently and, above all, creatively meeting the multilingual communication needs of its customers.

The advantages of such a structure are obvious: the lower overheads mean more competitive prices and the extreme flexibility makes it possible to meet a very wide variety of customer requests. All projects are handled by specialised translators or writers.

We are guided by three fundamental principles:

·     All our translators and writers work exclusively in their native language

·     We never miss a deadline

·     We make sure that our customers are always completely satisfied
